Welcome to Middle College

Middle College is a San Mateo Union High School District alternative education program, located at the College of San Mateo. In 2017, Middle College served 55 juniors and seniors; in 2018, it expanded to accommodate 140 students; in 2019, it accepted 180 students. For the 2026-27 school year, our individualized learning community, which offers an alternative pathway into some of the best colleges in the country, is happy to welcome up to 105 new juniors to the program, bringing our total to nearly our full capacity of 210.

Students who choose to attend San Mateo Middle College will become part of a community of scholars that seeks to advance themselves personally, collectively, and academically. As part of a personalized learning community, Middle College students should expect to receive frequent 1-1 time with teachers and advisors, a smaller learning environment, and an individualized approach to course planning.

Middle College students also need to understand that their choices impact both themselves and this community in powerful ways. Students choosing to come to Middle College are expected to engage sincerely in their work and classes, maintain excellent attendance, respect the dignity of others, and grow as students and human beings, thereby creating a community that helps others do the same.
