Cell Phones and Wireless Communications Devices

Middle College follows the SMUHSD cell-free school day policy in compliance with California’s Phone-Free School Act. Because Middle College students also participate in college courses and activities, the policy recognizes the independence and responsibility expected of college students.

In Middle College classrooms:

  • Phones and AirPods must be placed in the classroom’s Quiet Case Phone Locker at the beginning of class.
  • Phones remain locked away for the duration of class unless the teacher specifically unlocks them for instructional use.
  • Students may not take phones into the bathroom.

In CSM spaces: Middle College students are responsible for making thoughtful, appropriate choices about phone and device use while participating in CSM classes, activities, and other campus spaces.
