Middle College Dual Enrollment

Middle College is an opportunity for students to receive high school and college credit at the same time, for FREE! The classes are offered via different delivery methods all to accommodate your students various schedules. Students will be able to experience college level courses; explore career options and shorten the time it takes to complete a college degree.

 

  • Free College Units: Students can take up to 11.5 college units per semester.

  • Students must be enrolled in a minimum 6-units per semester.

  • Every Middle College student will have an advisor for their 2 years in the program.

 

Units

3 units at the CC = 5 high school credits or 1 semester

5 units at the CC = 10 high school credits or 1 full year

 

Do dual enrollment classes go on my high school transcript?

Yes, these courses will appear on your high school transcript. If a student took college classes before Middle College, please connect with the home campus for approval placing classes on the transcript. Middle College will add all college classes taken while students are in the program.

 

Grade Bumps

Most college classes will receive a grade bump. However, students should double check with their school counselor as there are some cases where there is no grade bump associated, depending on the course.

CSU Grade Bumps: No more than eight honors points may be awarded. Please refer to GPA calculator for CSU.

UC Grade Bumps: Maximum of 8 points between 10th and 11th grades. Please refer to UC GPA requirement page.

  • For 10th grade, you cannot use more than 4 honors points.

  • Grades of CR (credit) or P (pass) in an honors course do not earn an extra point.

  • Classes taken during the summer after 9th grade count as 10th grade; classes in summer after 10th grade count as 10th grade; classes in summer after 11th grade count as 11th grade.

  • One college course = one grade = one honors point.

Accessing canvas or WebSmart

  • Please visit your onelogin account via this link: https://smccd.onelogin.com/portal/

  • Tiles for Canvas and WebSmart should appear on the main page.

 

Request official and unofficial CSM transcript:

  • Use your WebSMART account to make your request. Login via your onelogin information and go toWebSmart.

  • Select Student Records (link under student services) and then select Request Official or Request Unofficial Transcript.

 

How to access my.smccd.edu email:

  • Login to WebSmart via onelogin and click on the WebSmart tile

  • Once in WebSMART, click on the my.smccd logo in the lower left corner of the screen

  • On the next screen you can access your username and default password. Please set up a new password at this time.

 

Alternative to Middle College: E-College

E-College combines the high school experience with a myriad of online courses and in-person instruction taught by Community College Professors. It is a combination of independent study and concurrent college enrollment. College units satisfy your diploma while working on your undergraduate degree at the same.

 

Highlights

  • Earn a high school diploma AND college credit at the same time: Students are allowed to take independent studies courses in conjunction with College of San Mateo courses to meet graduation requirements for a comprehensive high school diploma while also earning college credits.

  • Free College Units: SMUHSD will pay for up to 11.5 college units per semester

  • Students at any grade level can enroll in E-College prior to the start of the semester. In other words, students can be enrolled in E-College all four years of high school. .

  • Flexible Schedule: E-College students are able to choose their own schedule based on the courses, days and times they choose! There are asynchronistic, zoom and in person college courses.

  • Access to Extracurricular Activities: Students can still participate in all athletics, dances, extra-curricular activities at their home school site

  • Access to Counselors: E-College students can still receive counseling support at their home school site

  • Dedicated staff person: E-College Coordinator, Carolyn Mendez, works collaboratively with school site counselors, an onsite wellness counselor and administrators to ensure students meet their fullest potential. Ms. Mendez has an office on the CSM campus (Building 12, Room 208) for in-person meetings by appointment.

 

Typical Student

Successful candidates are:

  • Self-starters who are proactive, efficient, able to work well independently and are ready for a college setting

  • Students coming to the District from a similar alternative school placement

  • Students who are in need of a smaller individualized educational setting

  • Students who want a head start in college.

 

Attendance

Attendance will be taken daily Monday - Friday. Students have 24 hrs to complete the minimum required hours of work via Edgenuity online courses and Zoom to avoid being marked absent.

 

Enrollment

If a Middle College is interested in transitioning to E-College, they should check-in with Ms. B.
