Advisors and Advisory

Advisors

Each teacher supports approximately 35 students. Students have a mandatory 1:1, 15 minute bi-weekly meeting with their advisor beyond the mandatory advisory period which all students are required to attend Monday-Friday.

Advisor Responsibilities:

  • Academic Progress in MC and CSM Courses
  • Provide resources and make referrals for academic supports
  • Social-emotional support
  • Goal setting
  • College Planning

Advisory

Students are required to take this course during each semester in Middle College. Advisory and 1:1s  help students set goals, make informed decisions, and navigate challenges.

In Advisory, students learn and practice effective communication, time management, self-advocacy, and resource-navigation skills. They also develop self-awareness, healthy relationships, resilience, a sense of belonging, and confidence.

Students are graded for this course based on assignments, participation, behavior, and appointments with their advisor. Students must organize their academic and personal calendars to ensure attendance on the designated days.

This is an important space for academic support, socio-emotional learning, and community building, and students are expected to attend and engage.
